Above and Below: The best place to be on Tuesday mornings, in Lancaster County, is at Roots Country Market, the weekly farmers' market near Manheim.
Have breakfast at "Pip's Place", the lunch-counter restaurant inside the market.
This morning, two of the waitresses at Pip's Place are Old Order Amish, but they tell me it's OK if I take photos.
I didn't ask those two Amish waitresses their names, because I thought my camera was intrusive enough. So I think of them as Sarah and Rebecca.
(Old Order Amish parents often name their children Biblical names. So the girls get Old Testament Jewish names like Sarah, Rebecca, Leah, and Rachel. No Jennifers or Heathers.)
My photos of Sarah didn't turn out very well. But here is Rebecca.
Amish waitresses are good for business. They make you feel like your are eating someplace interesting, even though you're just sitting at a no-frills lunch counter.
