This black cat was made circa 1915 by Fannie W. (Burkholder) Martin (born 1865 - died 1951). Fannie created toys for her 10 children and 58 grandchildren. She also sold a few toys to her friends. (She made this orange-eyed toy for her grandchildren.)
Fannie was the wife of Henry W. Martin. They were conservative Mennonite farmers, and lived near Hinkletown, Lancaster County, PA.
Fannie was the daughter of Mennonite deacon Daniel S. Burkholder (born 1833 - died 1915).
Fannie also made strawberry make-dos and sheared yarn balls for her grandchildren.
