This big brown rooster (13-inches tall) was made by Sarah (Landis) Huber (born 1845 - died 1924), who lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Sarah was the daughter of Emmanuel Landis (born 1812 - died 1874) and Martha (Kurtz) Landis (born 1815 - died 1879) who were farmers in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County.
Sarah did not marry until age 30, so she may have supported herself by doing needlework, including making roosters such as this one.
In 1867 Sarah married Benjamin H. Huber (born 1846 - died 1925). They lived at Roseville, Manheim Township, Lancaster County. They raised a family of four children. At least two of their children owned fabric roosters such as this one.
